Technical Lead, Eastern Regional Operations

Location: ATA Engineering, 13921 Park Center Road, Ste 340, Herndon, Virginia 20171

ATA is seeking a senior technical leader with interest in developing internal staff capabilities as well as external account management opportunities. A successful candidate will have exposure to a diverse set of projects relevant to ATA’s target industries. Experience as a consulting engineer and project manager are ideal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assume the role of mentor and technical lead for engineers in ATA’s office in Herndon, Virginia:
  • Oversee and guide day-to-day project activities, applying technical direction and project management
  • Develop the skills and knowledge of colleagues through guided application and exposure to new methods
  • Perform and manage work using CAE software tools for the analysis-driven design of complex mechanical and aerospace products


  • Assume a technical role in identifying, developing, shaping, and closing business opportunities that grow
  • ATA’s relationships with customers
  • Primary business segments are aerospace and defense, with additional applications in commercial products, heavy machinery, and entertainment
  • Coordinate with ATA project managers on technical content, schedule, and price
  • Assist in the development of accurate, timely, winning proposals
  • Contribute to customer meetings and retain the relationship by anticipating future needs or additional points of contact
  • Expand knowledge of ATA throughout the client organization


  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or other relevant engineering discipline with excellent academic record
  • Significant technical expertise and experience in one or more of ATA’s key technical focus areas: structural dynamics, finite element analysis, thermal analysis, acoustics, computational fluid dynamics, analysis-driven mechanical/structural design, multibody dynamics
  • Experience with government contracts, SBIRs, and STTRs is desirable
  • Experience with CAE software tools such as Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, Siemens NX, Femap, etc., is required
  • Ten to fifteen years experience as a practicing engineer
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
