ATS KitAutomated Test Solutions (ATS) is a system designed by ATA Engineering and The Modal Shop to automate and reduce test setup time. This software and hardware package uses bar code scanning and smart transducers to reduce human error while preparing for data acquisition. It also provides checks to identify errors in the setup. It will then list the probable error so that it can be easily fixed. Read the ATS brochure here.

The ATS package comes with a Palm(TM) Handheld scanner, HotSync(TM) cradle, leather case for the scanner, and foam padded carrying case. It also includes the Palm(TM) Desktop and Handheld Operating System (Palm OS®), Seagull BarTender® bar-code generation software, ATS in Excel spreadsheet format, and all the executables that form the basis of ATS.

A typical procedure utilizing ATS would be as follows:

  1. Accelerometer BarcodesPrint bar codes for sensors (only need to do this once) and structure (needed for each test setup).
  2. Place barcodes on structure.
  3. Scan the sensor and node information at points on structure.
  4. Import the TEDS (smart transducers) data files from the amplifier.
  5. Run ATS comparison and checks to identify errors in setup.
  6. Structure BarcodeRead ATS-generated universal files (Channels Tables, Coordinate Traces, Transducer Calibration, etc.) into data-acquisition software.

The amount of time to setup a test is reduced because you don't have to track each cable. With TEDS reads and sanning barcodes, the channels are mapped using the serial numbers. The barcodes on the transducers identify the serial number of the transducer. The barcode on the structure identifies the node and direction coorosponding to each transducer. The TEDS information records the channel in which each transducer serial number is located. ATS then combines all this information to generate a channel table that can be imported directly into the test data aquisition software.
